For now, the concept is more intensified in the downstream area. Whereas, one of the causes of flooding is also happening in the upstream

Jakarta Provincial Government will review the mega project of National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) or known as giant sea wall. It aims to minimize flooding thoroughly and not only focus on downstream, but also upstream.

Head of Jakarta Development Planning Board (Bappeda), Andi Baso Mappapoleonro stated that at this time, the flood mitigation has yet to touch upstream area, in which it is only focused on levee construction, tidal wave anticipation, and beach reclamation. Whereas, one of the causes of flooding is also located in the upstream.

Private Companies Interested to Join in Gian Sea Wall Project

"For now, the concept is more intensified in the downstream area. Whereas, one of the causes of flooding is also happening in the upstream," he expressed, at City Hall, Tuesday (9/2).

Hence, he asserted, the Ciawi Dam construction located in the upstream must be built.

Jakarta Vice Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama also agreed if the flooding problems will not be completed only by building levee in downstream area.

The former Regent of East Belitung also ensures that Ciawi Dam construction would be continued, yet its construction is still constrained by land acquisition. To realize it, as much as Rp 1.9 trillion was taken from State Budget (APBN). While for land acquisition, is handled by Jakarta government that allocates Rp 1.2 trillion.

As for the NCICD is a reclamation project as wide as 1,080 hectares in the north sea of Jakarta. Almost half or 45 percent (486 hectares) of land would be used for housing, offices, shopping centers, and industrial.

Of the 486 hectares of land, 69.3 of them will be made as housing, where 14.8 percent for offices, 4 percent for shopping centers, and 12 percent for industrial.
